Hermitage and Monastery of Saint Peter of Koriška
The Hermitage and Monastery of Saint Peter of Koriška is located in the Koriša region near the city of Prizren, Kosovo, and consists of the remains of a historic cave monastery. Construction of the monastery began in the late 11th century and continued until the 14th century. Due to its difficult-to-reach location, it is also known as “The Bad Church”.
After the beginning of Ottoman rule in 1453, the monastery was abandoned. The relics of Saint Peter of Koriška were transferred to the Crna Reka Monastery in 1572. This monastery was declared a cultural monument on December 16, 1950, and in 1990 it gained the status of a Protected Cultural Monument.
The Hermitage and Monastery of Saint Peter of Koriška is of great importance both for the history of Orthodox Christianity and for Kosovo’s cultural heritage. MAP
